Gothic Horror at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair

Step into the dazzling spectacle of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair where progress masks a horrifying truth. Beneath the Ferris Wheel's shadow and amidst wondrous exhibits, lurk creatures driven by an insatiable hunger for money, power, and blood. Are you brave enough to confront the dark side of American exceptionalism, in a world of wealthy vampires working in the shadows to maintain their power.

City of Blood and Plaster is a system agnostic setting zine with NPCs, factions, and mysteries for your next exploration of Gilded Age Chicago. The scenarios and play materials all take inspiration from Gothic horror and Chicago history.

At the Chicago World's Fair, you might promenade on the very first Moving Walkway while enjoying a blue ribbon beer. You might sit in one of the first Ferris Wheel cars, which accommodated 40 people. This was all during a time of political and social strife, when socialists, anarchists, union activists, and early civil rights leaders all fought to have their voices heard.

Seven Factions, Five Mysteries and Dozens of NPCs!

Each horror mystery gives the GM all the tools needed for a one-shot or a 1-2 session experience. Scenarios are formatted with Jason Cordova’s 7-3-1 Technique and take inspiration from the mystery style of Carved from Brindlewood games, but no previous knowledge is required. These scenarios can be used in a variety of systems and contain NPCs, settings, and hooks to get the World’s Fair to your table.
